Monthelie, naming sublimate by the Alain Billard vineyard, near Beaune

AOC

Village naming Côte de Beaune in Côte d' Or.
This name includes 15 Climates classified as Premier Cru.
Producing commune : Monthelie.
The Monthelie and Monthelie Premier Cru naming may be followed or not by their original climate.

Characteristics of wine

The red Monthelie has a beautiful ruby color. Its aromas express the small red and black fruits (cherry, blackcurrant), sometimes floral notes (violet, peony), oriented on the undergrowth, ferns and spices with the age. Strong and velvety, its flesh rests on thin tannins. It shares with Volnay the image of a feminine wine.

Sommelier’s advice

Red: velvety and strong enough, its tannins must be accompanied with a soft feel in mouth meat, why not with some crisp impressions: roasted poultry, as in the thigh, in the tenderloins, roast lamb, rabbit. Roasted offal, such as sweetbreads, liver or grilled “andouillette” will appreciate the strong of Monthélie, the meat pies will also delight with this tune. For cheese, Brillat-Savarin, Brie, Reblochon.
Operating temperature 15°C.

Situation

At the balcony of the first terrain of the Côte de Beaune, Monthélie (we say Month'lie) is located between Volnay and Meursault.

"Quaintly nestled against the curve of the hill as the head of St. Jean the hollow of the shoulder of Christ Monthélie look like a Tuscan town" writes Pierre Poupon.

Steep and narrow , rich with a castle , old houses and good wineries, this beautiful village was under the authority of the Abbey of Cluny, for a long time.

"A hen dies of hunger during the harvest" claims the proverb: since the vine always fills the landscape.

Today, the personality of these wines fully expresses. The AOC was established in 1937.

Terroirs

Facing south and southeast, born of bathonien gravel limestone covered with red clay and marl, the Monthélie vineyards extend over the "Coteau de Volnay" and in the valley of Auxey-Duresses, with Argovian limestone and an east or west exposure according to the slopes (between 230 and 370 meters).
